Group Home
Intercession, Inc., is a specialized group setting for Pregnant/Parenting Adolescent Females and their young children. Intercession, Inc.’s group home is an adult-supervised, supportive environment that provides residence and programming for these young women who cannot live at home because of abuse, neglect or other extenuating circumstances. This group setting is not only a home but it also offers program services to help put young mothers and their children on the path to a better future. The program design includes:
- Pregnancy prevention services and referrals, including reproductive health
- Domestic violence education
- Alcohol and other drug abuse education and services
- Family reunification (whenever possible)
- A requirement to attend/complete high school or work on/obtain a GED
- Access to support services such as health care and counseling
- Parenting and life skills training
- Education, job training, employment services
- Community involvement
- Individual case management and mentoring
- Culturally sensitive services
- Services to ensure a smooth transition to independent living
The engagement of youth residents into programming is critical to meeting the needs of these adolescents. Intercession, Inc. will ensure residents are drawn into and consistently engaged using the following strategies: 1) provide clear understanding of the value of participation, 2) matching program content and schedules to residents’ needs, 3) offering fun, engaging activities from the onset of participation, and 4) having staff in place who are responsive and connect well with youth. The quality of the group settings staff is imperative to building effective relationships with youth.
Intercession, Inc. recognizes that adolescents experience changes in five different areas during the course of their development: physical, social, emotional, behavioral and cognitive changes. Intercession will engage youth and gear programming toward the varying social and physical phases of development of pregnant/parenting adolescent females.
